Transition Training Fund
Cresent - Making Work Safe

Have you been made redundant from the Oil and Gas industry?

The Scottish Government has set up a £12m fund, called the Transition Training Fund, managed by Skills Development Scotland.

The Transition Training Fund is available to those who have lost their job since 2015 and aims to provide them with funding for further training and skills development. Here are some key things that you need to know about the Transition Training Fund.

Applying for funding

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) list criteria including:

  • Being a resident in Scotland
  • You have been made redundant or currently at risk of redundancy from the oil and gas sector or its supply chain
  • You must have worked in the oil and gas industry, for an operator or supply chain company as an employee or contractor
  • Being able to demonstrate that the training will help you get a new job
  • Being actively seeking employment

It’s also important to note that you cannot have committed to, or have undergone, the training course for which you are applying for funding.

As part of your application, you will be asked to supply information about each of the courses that you’re interested in undergoing and the cost and supplier of this course.

We’ll even give you 10% off your first order on our online shop!

What happens next?

Skills Development Scotland will review your application. If they approve funding they will pay the training provider directly for your course. You won’t part with your own money, but you also may have to wait for the training course to be paid for from the Transition Training Fund before you can undergo the training course.

Additional Information

There are a few things that we think are important to understand about the Transition Training Fund:

  1. You may not receive full funding for your training. Each case is agreed on a case by case basis, and you may only be offered a contribution toward the cost of your training course.
  2. You can only apply once, so it’s important to identify all necessary training that you require (you can include training from more than one training provider or for multiple training courses).
  3. Funding does not cover travel or subsistence costs of attending training.
