Our Experience

With over 36 year’s of experience Cresent has been at the forefront of innovation and has gained a reputation of being a highly experienced Control of Work supplier. Over the years we have diversified our business from consultancy, to Control of Work systems (both paper-based and electronic), to training and then into hardware. We have worked with businesses to develop bespoke processes and systems suitable for their businesses and then trained their workforce to ensure that they have only competent people. Our experience is diverse and it’s something we’re proud of – it’s our history. Follow our journey below:

1982
Cresent was founded

Red Oak Limited – trading as Cresent – was established.

1993
Software

First company in the Oil and Gas industry to use Computer Based Training to deliver health & safety training, store training records in a database & provide daily reports to clients.  This was before video, before e-learning authoring software, & before online delivery.  Records were taken from eCh PC using ’floppy discs’ & collated in MS Access & reported using MS Excel spreadsheets.

Software used in the Cresent Training Centre as well as at remote sites including Client’s offshore facilities.

A sample of our clients includes Amoco, BP, Britannia Operating Company, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Marathon Oil UK, Shell, Texaco and Total.

Software

Developed a Task Risk Assessment (TRA) software application to relate hazards & controls and store the risk assessments for re-use.

1997
Control of Work

Helped to draft the UK HSE Guidance for the safe isolation of process plant and equipment (HSG253).  This document continues to be the de facto ‘standard’ for process isolation globally for the Oil and Gas industry. 

1998
Software

First company in the Oil and Gas industry to use a Learning Management System (LMS) to manage the delivery of health and safety training, store training records in a database and provide daily reports to clients. 

A sample of our clients includes Amoco, BP, Britannia Operating Company, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Marathon Oil UK, Shell and Total. 

2000
Software

Collaborated with BP and Petrotechnics in the development of BP’s Integrated Safe System of Work (ISSoW), which went on to become Sentinel Pro once Petrotechnics had commercialised this.  Cresent’s role was to provide Oil and Gas Safe System of Work expertise. 

2001
Control of Work

Awarded a contract to provide Safe System of Work training (Task Risk Assessment, Permit to Work, and Energy Isolation) for the UK HSE Inspectorate.  The contract has been renewed each year since and we continue to provide this training. 

2002
Software

Developed and deployed a bespoke Learning Management System (LMS) with a suite of e-learning courses to suit Texaco West Africa’s specific needs in support of their safe system of work (SSoW) in Nigeria. 

2003
Software

Configured a Shell/Enterprise Oil derivative Safe System oWork (SSoW) for the Enterprise Oil Fluminense FPSO offshore Brazil and deployed the ARAT Task Risk Assessment software application.  MODEC now operate this facility and still, to this day, use our dual language Learning Management System (LMS) and training applications. 

2003
Control of Work

Helped to draft the UK HSE Guidance for permit to work (HSG250).  This document continues to be the de facto ‘standard’ for permit to work globally for the Oil and Gas industry. 

2004
Software

Collaborated with Marathon Oil UK and Engica in the design and configuration of MOUK’s SSoWwhich has since been developed as Q4 ISSoW by Engica and commercialised for the Oil and Gas industry.  Cresent’s role was to provide Oil and Gas safe system of work expertise and ISSoW training. 

2005
Software

Collaborated with Chevron Angola and Engica in the design and configuration of the Cabinda SSoW (a version of Q4 ISSoW by Engica).  Cresent’s role was to provide Oil and Gas safe system of work expertise and ISSoW training. 

2006
Control of Work

We developed the first non-legacy paper-based Integrated Safe System of Work for the marine industry. Find out about our project with TechnipFMC here.

2006
Software

Collaborated with Wood Group and Gemsoft7 in the design and configuration of the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) Chestnut facility ISSoW (a version of PTW by Gemsoft7).  Cresent’s role was to provide Oil and Gas safe system of work expertise.

2007
Software

Developed our a WorkSafe Hazard Identification & Task Risk Assessment application (HITRA) and deployed this on 6 sites in Abu Dhabi for GASCO along with our LMS and a range of e-learning courses to support the safe systems of work. 

2008
Software

Developed our a WorkSafe Control of Work (CoW) software application and deployed this on AgipKCO’s Kashagan project in Kazakhstan. 

2009
WorkSafe

We developed the first electronic version of WorkSafe® (V1.0). It’s come a long way since then, see WorkSafe® here.

2009
Software

Provided our WorkSafe Control of Work (CoW) software application and deployed this on Maersk Oil’s 3 UKCS facilities. 

2010
Software

Provided our WorkSafe Control of Work (CoW) software application and deployed this on Maersk Oil’s 3 UKCS facilities. 

2011
Software

Configured our paper-based WorkSafe® Control of Work system for the Technip marine operations fleet and several onshore bases supported by our online Learning Management System, low bandwidth e-learning applications and deployed this globally across the Techníp subsea operations. 

2012
Software

Configured our paper-based WorkSafe® Control of Work (CoW) system as well as our WorkSafe® Control of Work (CoW) software application and deployed this on an initial 10 facilities on the Rumaila oil field in Iraq.  The application, supporting procedures, and all training courses are in English, Arabic, and Mandarin Chinese.

This application is the largest Control of Work deployment in the world, now live on 26 sites with 6,000 trainer system users.

2013
Software

Configured our paper based WorkSafe® Control of Work (CoW) system as well as our WorkSafe® Control of Work (CoW) software application and deployed this on Lukoil’s West Qurna 2 project in Iraq.

2014
Software

Deployed our LMS and online training software for Total Angola’s CLOV Project. 

Deployed our LMS and online training software for Oryx GTL in Qatar. 

Repaired and redeployed an existing process isolation software application for Dolphin Energy in Qatar. 

2015
Software

Established an SAP partnership to explore how best to configure our WorkSafe® software and LMS applications to use the latest SAP Hana technology. 

2016
Software

Configured our paper-based WorkSafe® Control of Work (CoW) system for the large Urenco Nuclear Reprocessing site, with 12 permit offices, in the UK supported by our online Learning Management System applicatione-learning applications and deployed this for access by Urenco staff and contractors. 

2016
Control of Work

Supported the development of Step Change in Safety’s Safe Working Essentials guidance and toolkit as part of the UK Oil and Gas industry Standardisation and Simplification initiative.  This now describes the de facto processes for toolbox talks, dynamic risk assessment, and safety observation and is already used across 30% of the UKCS facilities. Cresent continue to be present on the Step Change in Safety Leadership team.

2017
Software

Configured and deployed our WorkSafe® Control of Work (CoW) software application as a digital upgrade to the existing WorkSafe® paper-based system for the Singapore based Kreuz Subsea marine operations fleet supported also by our online Learning Management System and low bandwidth e-learning applications. 

2018
Software

Awarded a contract by Step Change in Safety to develop and host an online, industrywidesafety observation management application. 

2018
Control of Work

Continue to further develop the Step Change in Safety Safe Working Essentials guidance and toolkit as part of the UK Oil and Gas industry Standardisation and Simplification initiative.  This will include an updated Task Risk Assessment guide when released.
